Update on the Photowalk for this Saturday

Well I’m now established as the leader of the group and I’ve had to plan the activity in a day but I’m quite certain that I’ve managed to organize an activity that we are going to spend a good time.

We will be going to the La Sabana park in San Jose to photograph the nature in the park as well as everything else that’s happening there. These past days the weather has been quite nice during the morning but the afternoons are known to be rainy so we will start at 9am and walk around the park.

There is a railroad that is on one of the sides of the park that there is a train that goes by but sadly it only runs by on weekdays so we won’t be taking photos of it which is something I really hoped for…but we’ll do that some other time.

So far we have a total of 8 people registered for the walk on the city page:

Which is a quite nice sized group since it was a short notice and organized on one day. More information about the activity can be found on the city page.

I’ll share the day with all of you on Saturday afternoon and also post some photos of the activity. I’ll be taking my parents along so I know my dad will assist with taking the photos of the group.

Scott Kelby’s Worldwide Photowalk

You might have heard about the Worldwide Photowalk that is being organized by Scott Kelby and Photoshop User. I was amazed to see Costa Rica added to the list:

But I had to move quickly because we had to organize everything and the leader is out of the country so we had to change the leader and we are now in the organizing the route and times. I’m really excited that we managed to resolve the first part so that this activity can still take place this coming Saturday.

I’ll post any further updates that we have on this matter and you can expect some photos this weekend from me. There’s going to be a flickr group that will have the best photos from the walk posted and can be found by going to the following link:

The door to the other side

While I was taking the photos of the lens in my living room I decided to play a bit with long exposure so I turned off the light in the living room and took a shot of 1 minute in Bulb mode of the rooms. I then simply did a bit of work in Photoshop to eliminate those elements that you could still see on the computer room so that the room looked completely white and used some of Boutwell’s Totally Rad Actions to give the effects and I really love how the final image turned out.

My mini-review of the 50mm f/1.8D lens

Well this isn’t like one of those professional reviews of a lens. Let me say that I actually really love this lens and the first recommendation given to me by my good friend ocnarfid is not to go crazy with the f/1.8 since it’s not for all photos and let me say that he’s right and I’ll show you why in a bit.

I tested the lens last night when I was able to open the box on a rather low light situation and using the f/1.8 and really enjoyed the results from that quick run since I was able to get quite the interesting photos that I would have otherwise been unable to do so with my 18-55mm lens and I’ve been told that this is a good lens for low light situations.

The Nikkor 50mm f/1.8D has arrived…

I recently bought this lens and so far I’m loving it. I took a couple of photos tonight to see how the photos came out and so far I’m very impressed by the quality.

I also got a polarized filter that my sister gave me and I’ll be getting a chance tomorrow to play with it. So check back tomorrow to check my quick review of the lens and also some new photos with that lens and the filter since I don’t have to work this Friday because it’s mother’s day in Costa Rica therefore a holiday so I’ll have plenty of time to play around.

The 4GB SanDisk Extreme III SDHC card also arrived this week and next week the remote shutter release control as well as a spare battery will arrive. Now all I’m missing is the external flash unit which will have to wait a bit before I buy it. I also would like to get a lens that covers the range of 55mm to 70mm since that’s the range that I’m missing but this is for a future purchase…though I’ll need a new camera bag for it since my current bag is maxed out in capacity.

White chocolate moka capuccinno anyone?

Last night was the party that I had organized since I was leaving the department I’ve been working for the past two years, I had to organize it because no one else would and it’s not because they don’t like me but because that’s just how things happen around here. Unfortunately I don’t have any photos of the event because I didn’t bring my camera along and no one else did either.

We began at a bar called Quizz in Heredia then at 7pm we moved to MasTkila Bar that’s at the Paseo de las Flores mall, we went there because a couple of coworkers said that it would be best to do the whole activity there and not on another bar…but guess what…those people that said that I should make it there didn’t even arrive…well I learned my lesson and next time I’ll choose the place and the rest should decide whether to arrive there or not. After like an hour of being in that bar we left since it was kinda expensive and no one appeared to be going to arrive and we headed to a friend’s house to finish the party.

I came back home at around 3:30 am since we did the “sarpe” at Sands bar in San Jose the four of us that lasted.

Today I woke up at around 11 am and left with my parents to go shopping and to eat as well…
