My name is Luis Murillo, and I specialize in the Tape and Optical storage area for a big international company. I also have a passion for computer hardware, I code as a hobby in Visual Basic and C++ and my other passion is photography.

I currently live in Costa Rica, Central America. I work, play and live here. Most of my photography is done in the natural scenery that Costa Rica is so famous for, there are some photography from other locations like the US and Taiwan. I’m mostly interested in Macro photography. Currently my camera is a Nikon D60 DSLR, which is my main camera, and have taken most of my new photos with it and I also have a Panasonic Lumix DMC-LZ3 with which I have taken most, if not all, of the old photos that are on my flickr account.

Why was this blog created?

This blog was originally created back when I was still taking my programming courses in the university, I would just write about the projects and explain the issues and solutions, but after the whole university was left on hold there were no more projects to post and to be honest I have been busy with other things and have left programming a little bit on the side, so I went on to writing about anything else that bothers me or that I consider good enough to write an article about. Also, since I’ve gotten into photography, I’ll be writing about the photos that I take or new things that I learn from the subject.

Why is it that you take a long time to post some new content on your blog?

Well, that’s because I’m not much of a writer when it comes to…well, anything really. I have written some material before but nothing that complex or interesting. I also have other things to do and my blog is just a space and something I like to do sometimes so that’s basically why I don’t update everyday or every week. Though I’m working to getting a post at least twice a week.

Can I use your photo for X or Y?

Well you can use my photos as long as you give credit where it’s due and don’t use it for profit or any public advertisement. If you would like to use any of my photos for commercial ads or related reasons please contact me previously to get a written permission from me. If you would like to link the photo on your blog or would like to print it feel free to do so and if you post it on a blog just write to me so that I can visit your post and link to it from my blog.

Can I get a photo is a bigger resolution?

Sure, just write to me and I can process the photo at a bigger resolution. Once again the above applies so please also state the reason for the request.

What photography gear do you have?

I have my Panasonic Lumix DMC-LZ3 point-and-shoot camera which I used as my main camera and also to shoot certain things now it’s mostly used by my parents. I also have my first DSLR which is a Nikon D60. I also have two lenses, one is the Nikkor DX 18-55mm G lens and the other is the Nikkor 70-300mm G lens. To edit my photos I use my Windows machine with Adobe Photoshop Lightroom and Adobe Photoshop CS3. I’m by far an expert at Photoshop so I use Boutwell’s Totally Rad Actions and also have some presets for Lightroom. I shoot in RAW mode now and take the time to process the photos afterwards since I love the flexibility that this format provides in the processing of the images.

What hardware do you have?

At home I have four computers and two Linksys wireless routers. I only use one Linksys wireless router to connect everything up along with a Linksys switch and to also provide DHCP and DNS to the home network and it’s running the DD-WRT firmware. The File Server is an Intel Celeron 1GHz white box with 3 IDE hard drives and two ethernet cards that are bonded by software. The firewall is a Sun Netra T1 200DC with an UltraSPARC II 500MHz with an 18GB Ultra160 SCSI hard drive. My desktop is an AMD 64 3000+ 2GHz white box with two SATA hard drives and runs ArchLinux and Windows XP Pro SP2. I do have one extra server, another Sun Netra T1 200DC, which is not doing much right now but will soon be put to do something which I’m currently using to store my photos and also to add the watermark on my new photos as well as being the machine I use to chat over IRC and run other things. I recently got an AMD Phenom 9500 system which is my Windows box and gaming system. I do plan on getting more hardware, specially another monitor to have the dual-head working, but this will be a long term project that I have.

How can I contact you?

Well if you must ask I can be contacted through the following methods:

My e-mail address lmurillo{at}codebeta{dot}net will probably be the best and fastest method plus you can use it to look me up in myspace and facebook in case you want to add me ;)

I also use the MSN messenger and Google Talk which you can also add me using my e-mail address above. On AIM my username is tenshilm. I use mostly Google Talk so that’s the best way…just that when you add me remind me that you found me through the site ;)

This blog is running ontop of Wordpress, the theme being used is K2 by Michael, Chris, Zeo, Steve and Ben and the Slickr plugin that can be found in the Photography section is by Rupert Morris.

All photos, at least the recent ones, are hosted over at my flickr account: http://www.flickr.com/photos/lmurillo/

The posts and photos are obviously done by myself :)
