As some astronomers would say, they look like novas but in fact they aren’t. These are the photos that I took during New Year’s, around midnight, from my apartment overlooking San Jose.

As you can see in the photo above, these are the fireworks that could be seen over San Jose.

These are not shooting stars, the neighbors were also having their own display of fireworks and this is the aftermath of one of those. The following photos are from the fireworks display that was taking place near my apartment

All of these shots were taken with a 30 second exposure using ISO 100.
