Ok, so I know I’ve taken quite long to post anything on the blog let alone post the photos from the skateboarding tournament which took place a week ago but I really got to get better at getting the photos in and out faster than this but I’m getting there :)

A local supermarket is hosting the tournament at different locations around Costa Rica and anyone can sign up to participate. There are other companies that are joining the supermarket to sponsor the event and one of them is Arenas which is a local skate and surf shop.

Now on to the photos

There were guys from a wide range of ages participating on this tournament and they divided them into 3 categories which included the children then the semi-pro and the professional skaters and went in that order. Sadly only guys participated on the tournament itself though there were a lot of girls around with skateboards and sign up was open for everyone so I wonder why no girls came up and signed up?

This girl was part of the organizers since she was not only placing stickers on the ramps but also moving people around and calling security to move people around.

The weather was partially cloudy and very sunny which was great for photos. I did get sunburned because of the whole time I spent taking photos but luckily it didn’t go beyond that. They had a couple of boxes and obstacles so in between the activities and before everything got started everyone was allowed to skate around the course that was setup and it was very well taken advantage of by the skaters and myself since I got some great photos out of that.

The kids had a couple of tricks up their sleeve and it was nice to watch them skate around. Unlike the other two categories, the children were sent one by one to skate during their chance and the other two categories were divided into 2 or 3 groups. Unfortunately there were some things that weren’t taken into consideration and one of them was the proper protective gear since it was only used for the children category and the helmet used was a bit big for some kids which actually caused the kids to have a difficult time with it thus making their skate participation quite poor. Such as the child pictured below, though the photo doesn’t include him with the helmet, he had a difficult time when participating.

The guy pictured below was practicing his jump of the supermarket cart from the beginning and that was what probably got him the first place in his category.

Then there were others that were practicing the jump

Attendance was quite good and there were a lot of teens hanging around watching the show. Because this took place in the parking lot of the supermarket there were vehicles moving near the area set up for this event which had some issues with were the people had to stand to prevent any accidents.

And as always there were lovely models that were at the stands of the sponsors. The first girl is from Dos Pinos and she posed for this photo

This next girl was from Snickers and the photo was taken during the announcing of the first place winner for the professional category

This is something that I haven’t really tried before and I really liked the outcome and plan on using it later on. This guy is part of the Arenas Skateboarding Team and they gave this show before the actual competition began. He was jumping from that height down to the ramp below and took him about 3 tries to get it right and each of the tries he fell to the ground when landing until he was able to get it right.

There were a lot more photos that came out though those were my favorite ones from the tournament. I have some other detail shots that I’m going to work on differently and make them like the image above. But until that happens you can head over to the gallery and see the rest of the photos that didn’t make it to the post ;)
