The first ever CowParade is held in our country’s capital this year and a lot of artists have joined the cause and painted a cow with a theme that shows something related to our country whether it’s the coffee or the natural resources that our country has or even the different cultures that this country has.
Last sunday I attempted to go and take some photos of these works of art but I was unable because of the rain and because of that I decided to go early in the morning this time and it didn’t rain on me it was sunny all day and I even got a sun burn which I’m not too excited about.
A lot of people from all over the country come to the capital, San Jose, to see the works of art which have been placed on the boulevards and parks of the city. Because they are always on display and they are on the public areas many of them have fallen victim to the vandalism and attempt of theft since there is little security force that can keep watching and protecting these cows which, in many cases, are made of fiber glass and other materials. There are cows that we see are missing an ear, not because the artist intended for them to be like this, but because someone has just broken it off the cow.
This has caused for most of the cows to have barricades around them to prevent people from damaging them or even touching them and despite the big signs that state that the cows shouldn’t be touched since they are works of art people ignore this and simply have to touch the cow, lean on them and even sit the kids on top of the cows just to get a picture and this is because these people don’t have the cultural values to appreciate art which is displayed like this.
I’ve also heard that more than just being a display of art it’s a protest from some people in regards to our farmers and the fact that they are loosing more and more rights when it comes to the produce they harvest, now don’t quote me on this since this is what I’ve heard and I’m paraphrasing ![]()
The cows are spread throughout various sections of our country’s capital so we had to walk a lot in order to see these cows but it sure was worth it since a lot of these cows are beautifully designed and really show the culture of our country and the nature that we have.
A lot of companies have pitched in and sponsored a cow or two.
