The Trip

If you have been reading the last posts on this blog, you would already know that I had a trip to the US scheduled, but in case you didn’t know here is my experience.

The company I work for, sent me and other coworkers over to the sites in Colorado to get some further training than that which we obtained when we started working there. The trip was basically business related, but there was some entertainment and shopping done, after all there are a couple of things that I can’t get over at Costa Rica. ;)

The flight we took on Saturday went rather well, there was a bit of turbulance but that was just about it, since there is no direct flight from Costa Rica to Colorado we had to land in Dallas and switch planes. Luckly there was no delay when going through imigrations and then picking up the luggage and moving it to another location so that they can take the luggage to the other plane, which from one point of view it seems rather annoying since on the way back I didn’t have to do this and from another point of view it’s best because that way you know that your luggage arrived with you.
We arrived rather early that saturday so we had to drive to the hotel, after getting a bigger car because we didn’t fit on the first one that was rented, once we arrived at the hotel and got all checked in we got together, since I wasn’t traveling alone, to plan the evening. One thing that one has to remember is that when traveling to the US you just can’t pass on the shopping, well unless you travel to the US a lot more often than we do, I mention this because most people may ask why and the answer is rather simple “it’s cheaper”. Given the fact that all of the electronics have a high tax tag when entering Costa Rica then when you want to buy something it can cost anywhere from a couple of dollars to a couple hundred dollars more in Costa Rica than in the States, so you now understand why I mention that you just can’t pass up buying something in the US. So we hit Best Buy that night to purchase a couple of things and me being a compulsive buyer I just got a bit carried away and purchased a lot more than was originally expected.
On Sunday we went to a Colorado Rockies Baseball game and it was very entertaining even though it rained and the game was delayed like an hour. Earlier one of the coworkers that came along saw in the news that the weather man said that it might rain around 3pm that day, he was amazed at how accurate the weather was, since in Costa Rica the weather man hardly ever gets the forecast correct, this reminds me of that episode of Fairy Oddparents where the town goes after the weather man for not getting the forecast correct, hehe
Not only did it rain but there was a very strong wind, so when they were covering the field so that it didn’t get wet the wind blew so hard that it lifted the plastic cover that was covering the field and then the cover took the stadium personel for a wild ride. While they were fighting with the cover and trying to finish covering the field you could still see people coming out from underneath the damn thing. Since the cover was winning the visitor team, if I remember correctly they were from Philladelphia, came out to help, something that was applauded by the audience. The home team, the Rockies, didn’t come out to help and they also lost the game.
During the weekdays we had to work so there isn’t much to tell in regards to that, mostly because it’s not that interesting anyways ;)
After we got out of work we would visit some place to just waste time and to get to know the place afterall we are turist. From the places we got to visit that I can remember are the Garden of Gods which was nice, also the Cave of the Winds which was…well a cave and not much to see but still nice though the tour guide didn’t seem too excited.
The following weekend we had to change cities so on Saturday we had to change hotels and there was a drive of about 2 hours, it might have been less, it still wasn’t as exciting as the road trips that I took with my family a couple of years ago from Miami to Niagra Falls. After arriving at the hotel we changed into our bathing suits so that we could hit the lake since one of our coworkers that lives in the US has a boat. The boat trip was nice, we did some surfing while being pulled by the boat, although I didn’t get much of surfing time since it rained on us and we had to move. During the rain that fell it got really cold and my manager and I had to put on sweaters and look for cover because we were freezing our butts off.
After the rain went by we had a bit more fun at lake although I didn’t get any more time to attempt my luck at surfing, which only Jorge got enough time to actually get the high five, so I just got like three tries and then didn’t get any more :(
The following days would just be work and back to the hotel since we were already tired and had little sleep time, not that I’m used to sleeping a whole lot anyways, the thing is that since it got dark really late, around 9:40pm, we would lose track of time and arrive at the hotel when it got dark thus not having much sleep and all that going out to see sites got us tired after a while. We still did some shopping on that week. The last day we spent at Brad’s house having a BBQ, it was fun and it sure did bring back memories from when I lived in Miami, something that I would love to do again anytime, not necessarily live in Miami but in the US.

Until the next trip to Taiwan that I’m going with my family, that’s all for now.
