MythTV
I’ve been hearing about this for quite some time now, I think that I first heard of it in one of my favorite podcasts, I haven’t configured one mostly because I would like to build a small box for this. Also the machine would be placed in the WLAN, yes it’s not as fast and reliable as the cable, but that would mean that I wouldn’t have to add another cable going from the second floor down to the first floor.
The issue with the WLAN that I currently have is that the signal on the second floor is terrible. I often connect my laptop to the TV and stream the video, well what I do might not be considered as streaming but we’ll call it like that, from my file server to the laptop so that I can watch the videos that I have stored there, though the wireless signal shows up as low it doesn’t really have an issue with that.
I tried setting up a repeater but it appears to be creating an issue more than it resolving the issues. So, after getting my repeater back from a friend I lend it to, I will try to set it up again and if it fails, I might give a shot at setting up the WRT54GS that I have as a node of the WLAN. This because I have reflashed the WRT54GS and WRT54GL with DD-WRT. We’ll see how that goes. Once I get my network working like it should, I might give this mythtv a try.
