0205: Graphical User Interface
Creating programs with GUIs are fun, well at least when they’re small. This project had to be coded on one week and we had company during the coding, which was great. This project gave me an idea for a small quick tutorial which will be posted next week, so keep checking back.
After doing four coding projects using nothing more than a console to gather and display data, we finally got a chance to create a GUI for the program. Well, it does make a difference, it felt more like we were doing something, actually seing a GUI for the program that we were coding was great.
Now, given the fact that the university where I study is a windows-only-minded-school, like many other, we’re coding using the WinAPI. At first I thought it was MFC that we were using to create the GUIs but it turned out that it wasn’t, it took me a while to find that out and to notice that what I was coding didn’t work.
The idea of the program was to, basically, only gather data with the use of text boxes and to display the data either on a text box or a list box. Given the fact that we had to do the research on how to create the controls on the window, we didn’t have much time, so what I did was get an example from Planet Source Code and learn from that, it turned out to be easier than I thought.
I guess I’ll be writing a small quick tutorial on this and posting it to this site, but given the fact that I’m on finals and it’s been a crazy week, then that will have to wait till next week.
Coding for this project took us the whole week, well actually it took us less than that, but it was a fun week. We actually had the company of two lovely ladies
; two of my classmates needed help with the proyect so they came over.
Well I guess that’s all for now, check back next week for the tutorial on GUIs with WinAPI.
